Description
‘Ecclesiae Militantis Triumphi’ (17th century) The Church and the Triumph of the Glorious Martyrs (The series entitled ‘Triumphs of the Church Militant’, depicting Christian martyrs during the reigns of various Roman emperors, was first published in 1585, and comprised 32 engravings by Giovanni Battista de Cavalieri depicting in detail the martyrdoms of various saints.) Our composite collection, from a later edition, comprises approximately 37 plates, several of which are late prints and a few of which are duplicate copies. There is a reprint, or a reinterpretation, of the engravings from this collection by Jan van HAELBECK (active in Paris from 1600 to 1630). It is known that he worked on numerous publishing projects. Some of these were original creations. Others were re-engravings of popular works published previously. An example of the latter is the publication *Ecclesiae Militantis Triumphi*, published by Jean Leclerc in Paris in the early 1600s. H. 31 cm – W. 22 cm (the album)
