[SWEDEN – GEOLOGY] ERDMANN, Axel. A Survey of the Quaternary Formations of Sweden. Atlas containing 14 general maps. Stockholm, P. A. Nordstedt & Sons, 1868. Folio, contemporary fawn half-basane, smooth spine with handwritten title label. 4 unnumbered folios and 14 colour geological maps, including 3 fold-out maps and 1 double-page map. Scuffing to the binding, normal wear and tear. The only known copy of this edition produced for foreign audiences. Title in French and plates with captions in Swedish. German stamps from a polytechnic library. Axel Erdmann (1814–1869), a geologist and chemist, was a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He was one of the founding members of the Geological Survey of Sweden, a public agency responsible for regulating the commercial exploitation of geological resources. A fine copy.
