In-8 volume (213x134 mm). Aubergine half-basane, smooth spine decorated with the title, author’s name and gilt fillets (contemporary binding). 372 pp. Leather rubbed, a tear beginning at the first joint. Foxing, as is often the case. First French edition of the *Organon* by the German physician and founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) Translation by Baron von Brunnow (1796–1845) based on the 1819 edition. Presented in the form of numbered aphorisms, the *Organon* sets out the doctrinal and methodological foundations of this alternative medicine. A seminal work in the history of medical thought, the *Organon* has had a lasting influence, particularly in Europe and the United States, where homeopathy developed throughout the 19th century. Baron von Brunnow’s translation played a major role in the reception and dissemination of homeopathy in the French-speaking world. Provenance: stamp of the Paris Faculty of Medicine bearing the motto ‘ut prosit et ornet’.
