Description
[POETRY – NORMANDY]. BARATTE, Louis-Henri. Poètes Normands. Paris, Amédée Bedelet, Dutertre, Martinon and Pilout, n.d. [c. 1850]. In-4, caramel-coloured half-basane, spine with raised bands highlighted and edged with gilt fillets, title label on olive-green morocco, upper edge red, covers preserved, untrimmed. Uncollated (page numbers by entry), numerous etched portraits. Some scuffing, including a loss of marbled paper on the front cover; the margins of the covers are browned. This fine bibliographical collection is devoted to a selection of Norman authors. It comprises some thirty entries with text extracts, each illustrated with an etched frontispiece portrait by Charles Devrits (1827–1860). Includes an engraved and three-colour printed bookplate by Auguste-Pierre Garnier (1885–1966), a publisher and poet from the Manche department. A fine copy, in good condition.
