Description
[SEINE-ET-MARNE]. Fold-out map of the French Brie region (c. 1750–1820).
Paper mounted on thick linen canvas (60 x 93 cm).
Extensive, faded foxing, with a more concentrated patch of foxing at the bottom right, a few small black spots on the central square, and several small holes at the corners where the canvas folds.
This map, most likely dating from the late 18th century or the very early 19th century, covers the area known as Brie, namely the northern part of present-day Seine-et-Marne (Meaux, Crécy-la-Chapelle, Coulommier…), the far south of the Aisne (as far as Château-Thierry) and the south-west of the Marne (Esternay, La Noue, Sézanne, Orbais, Saint-Martin-d’Ablois, etc.).
A charming regional map, on its original canvas.
