A charming, limited-edition illustrated volume featuring 18 colour etchings; this copy is further enhanced by a black-and-white suite, set in a beautiful full mosaic morocco binding by Charles Meunier. Paris, Les Cent Bibliophiles, 1899. In-8, full duck-blue coarse-grained morocco, spine with four false raised bands extending to the covers via embossed fillets and adorned with a mosaic-patterned and gilded flower; front cover adorned with a mosaic-patterned and gilded floral frieze running the full height, inner edging in the same duck-blue morocco decorated with a gilded floral frieze of neoclassical inspiration, linings and endpapers in red moiré silk embroidered with gilded motifs, double endpapers, edges gilt on endpapers, original covers preserved. Binding signed ‘Ch. Meunier 1904’. 74 pp., 18 colour etchings. Spine sun-faded, some slight rubbing and a scratch on the back cover. A rare illustrated edition featuring 18 colour etchings by François Courboin (1865–1928). Limited edition of 115 copies on laid paper (no. 77), this one personalised and enhanced with a black-and-white set of all the illustrations. ‘Les Cent Bibliophile’ was one of the leading bibliophilic societies of the Belle Époque, with each edition produced in small numbers. Our copy is bound in full mosaic morocco by Charles Meunier (1865–1948), one of the most prominent bookbinders of the early 20th century; a fine demonstration of his craftsmanship and artistic sensibility, influenced by Art Nouveau. A charming bibliophile’s item. Provenance: - P. R. Méry’s bookplate on the first blank endpaper, depicting a town hall with the motto “Information, Publicity, Propaganda”.
