Description
BONNARD, Abel. Rome. First copy on Japanese paper, number 1, featuring a dedicatory inscription and a handwritten note on the Italian capital. Paris, Hachette – ‘Capitals of the World’ series, 1931. n-8, paperback, cloth-bound cover. 96 pages. Spine and margins of the covers slightly yellowed; first section fragile. First edition. One of the 10 numbered first copies printed on Japanese paper, this one bearing the number 1. Copy enhanced with a beautiful, lengthy autograph dedication addressed to Paul Beauvais: “I am delighted that Mr Paul Beauvais owns this book of mine. May he regard it, even though I have not had the pleasure of presenting it to him, as a token of my friendship, in keeping with the few words I have written here.” The copy also contains a 30-line autograph manuscript (1 p. in-8), a note by the author on “Rome in Summer”. Included is a collection of printed articles by Abel Bonnard, taken from various newspapers and bound together in an 8vo Bradel-style binding of full marbled grey paper. A fine copy.
