The first collective edition, partly original, arranged in chronological order to highlight the diversity and longevity of the work of André Gide, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1947. Paris, Gallimard, 1933–1939. 15 in-8 volumes, paperback, covers decorated with a colour engraving by Galanis, under Rhodoid covers. Uncollated, 15 frontispiece portraits. Edges browned. First collected edition, partly original. One of 3,077 copies numbered on Bruges laid paper with ‘à la gerbe’ watermark (no. 1891). This edition presents Gide’s works comprehensively, in chronological order, with a short introductory note in each volume and a photographic portrait of the author, whose face changes over time. A fine set, volumes uncut.
