A major reference work in the study of Oriental carpets, complete in two volumes. A total of 120 plates, more than half of which are in colour, presented in captioned tables providing technical information on the motifs, knotting techniques and geographical origin of the carpets.
This monumental study is distinguished by the scientific approach taken by the German archaeologist and orientalist Friedrich Sarre (1865–1945), who headed the Islamic section of the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin from 1921 to 1931.
