First edition of this essay based on the works of Abbé Haüy, founder of geometric crystallography and gemmology. Paris, Boulland, 1825. In-8, brown half-basane, smooth spine decorated with four gilt fillets, blind-stamped scrolls and fleurons, black leather title label, yellow edges speckled with red. VIII and 528 pages, portrait of Haüy as a frontispiece, 12 fold-out engraved plates. Binding rubbed, slight tear at the lower joint, some foxing. First edition, complete with all 12 engraved plates, the last of which was delicately coloured at the time of publication. Three handwritten bookplates (on the inside front cover, the half-title page and the back of the frontispiece). In good condition.
