Description
CHATEAUBRIAND, François-René de. Complete Works.
First collected edition, largely original, “the most significant and most sought-after” according to Clouzot.
Paris, Ladvocat, 1826–1831.
28 tomes in 31 in-8 volumes, each bound in green half-shagreen, with a ribbed spine decorated with blind-stamped fillets and gilt fleurons.
Not collated.
Spines very slightly faded, some normal wear and tear, minor foxing mainly on the first few pages, interiors fresh.
A collective first edition, largely in its original form. Among others, ‘Les Natchez’, ‘Le Dernier Abancérage’ and ‘Le Voyage en Amérique’ appear here for the first time.
Each volume is adorned with a frontispiece engraved by Charles Thompson bearing the tome number.
Volume XXII contains, at the end, the tragedy ‘Moïse’, which is often missing.
Embossed bookplate ‘Rocreuse’.
[Vicaire, II, 300].
A very fine set, bound in a uniform style at the time.
