Two fine folio-sized series featuring 24 beautifully reproduced carpets. Of the greatest interest to any lover of textile art.
London, Henry Sotheran and Bernard Quaritch, 1882 and 1893.
2 folio volumes, in the publishers’ bindings: the first volume in cream vellum with a red headband, the second in beige percaline; titles running lengthwise on the spine; titles and authors’ names on the front cover.
XVII (preface to the first vol.), unnumbered, 12 plates per volume.

Bindings slightly soiled, cap bands missing on the first volume, a few small stains on the second, normal wear and tear. Blot marks opposite the plates.
First edition, printed on van Gelder Holland paper, comprising a total of 24 plates of carpets based on Julia Robinson’s watercolours, reproduced by chromolithography.
Each plate is accompanied by an explanatory note by Vincent Robinson detailing the provenance and place of manufacture of the carpet depicted (Sarakhs, Shiraz, Baghdad, Mashad, Kurdistan, Gherous, Afghanistan, Modern Indian Alcaraz, etc.).
