Pliny the Elder and GUEROULT, Claude-Bernard (trans.). Excerpts from the Natural History. Paris, Michel Lambert, 1785. In-8, full marbled calfskin, smooth spine decorated with gilt fleurons and two gilt garlands at the foot, green morocco title label, blind-stamped fillet framing the covers, gilt fillet on the edges, guilloché caps, red edges. VII and 554 pages. Binding slightly rubbed, two small wormholes on the spine, a small ink stain on the upper margin of page IX. First edition of the excellent translation by Claude-Bernard Guéroult (1744–1821), with the Latin text in parallel columns. A very fine copy in a beautiful contemporary binding.
