Copy no. 1, one of the first five printed on Imperial Japan paper, illustrated with six woodcuts and a suite. Complete with the signed frontispiece by Valentine Hugo.

Small folio, covers preserved and the front cover illustrated with a woodcut; pale red cardboard slipcase housed in a matching cardboard slipcase.
16 unnumbered folios, one copperplate frontispiece, six woodcuts.
Some scuffing to the slipcase; the slipcase is warped with a clumsy repair using adhesive tape at the top of the front cover; small tears at the lower spine; four faint foxing spots.
First edition of this collection of poetry, illustrated with six of the author’s woodcuts. Limited edition of 435 copies; this is one of the five numbered front-runner copies on Imperial Japan paper, bearing the number 1 justified as ‘St Georges’ and complete with its set of six woodcuts on heavy paper in various shades.
A fine copperplate frontispiece by Valentine Hugo (1887–1968), signed in graphite with the inscription ‘ép. état’.
Rare, in good condition.
