VERLAINE, Paul. Fêtes galantes. A facsimile of the manuscript, a limited first edition printed on Japanese paper. Paris, Messein – ‘Les Manuscrits des Maîtres’ collection, 1920. In-4, paperback, filled cover, in a green half-maroquin slipcase with a smooth spine bearing the title in full length and a bordered case. 4 unnumbered folios, a frontispiece portrait on laid paper and 28 engraved plates. Spine unmarked but sun-faded as is often the case, with a small tear at the bottom. A facsimile edition of the manuscript of this great collection, which foreshadows Symbolism. It is adorned with a portrait after Fantin-Latour and opens with a foreword by Ernest Delahaye. One of the 49 numbered first-edition copies on Japanese paper (no. 6). A fine copy, preserved in a slipcase and case.
