First edition illustrated with 17 woodcuts, first print, by Pierre Bouchet after compositions by Anna de Noailles
Limited edition of 130 numbered copies on Japanese paper, signed in ink by the author; this is one of 22 containing a double set in black and colour (no. 67), inscribed to ‘Madame Jean Stern’.
In this volume, Anna de Noailles (1876–1933) celebrates the landscapes of Nice and Savoy, which she illustrates with delightfully modern watercolours, likely inspired by the works of Matisse or Pierre Bonnard from the same period. Pierre Bouchet demonstrates great technical mastery in transferring these vibrantly coloured compositions onto wood in exquisite tones.
Engraved bookplate by Jean Stern (1875–1962), a fencer and writer, famous for his involvement in horse racing but also for having challenged Robert de Montesquiou to a duel (which he won).
A fine copy, in very fresh condition.
