Description
[BOTANY] FRIES, Elias. *Novitiae Florae Suecicae*. Second edition, expanded and revised in the form of a commentary on Wahlenberg’s *Flora Suecica*. Everything about Swedish flora, by the great botanist Elias Fries, nicknamed the ‘Linnaeus of fungi’. Londini Gothorum (Lund), printed by Berlingiana, 1828. In-8, light-coloured half-calf, smooth spine decorated with fleurons and gilt fillets and repeated cold-stamped motifs, black title label, speckled edges. XII and 306 pages. In Latin. Normal wear and scuffing to the binding; scratches on the title label. A new, revised edition, on bluish paper, based on the work of Göran Wahlenberg, Professor of Botany at Uppsala University, whom the author succeeded. Bound together with the following: - *Novitiarum Florae Suecicae. Mentissa prima. Accecit commentatio de Salicibus* (Lund, ex officina berlingiana, 1832, 80 pp.) - *Novitiarum Florae Suecicae*. *Mantissa altera*. *Additis plantis in Norvegia recentius detectis* (Uppsala, Lefflert and Sebell, 1839, (2) and 64 pp.). An excellent collection of three studies by Elias Fries (1794–1878), a Swedish mycologist and botanist who laid the foundations for the classification and cataloguing of fungal species. A copy virtually free from foxing, in a contemporary binding.
