[TAXIDERMY] MOUTON-FONTENILLE DE LA CLOTTE, Jacques. The Art of Taxidermy, containing new theoretical principles and practical methods designed to preserve the natural forms and postures of each family of birds. Lyon, Yvernault and Cabin, 1811. 8vo, half-vellum, straight spine with handwritten title running lengthwise and date at the foot, untrimmed. XVI–171 and 1 unnumbered leaf (publisher’s catalogue), 5 folded engraved plates at the end. Stains, mainly in the margins. A fine edition, illustrated with 5 engraved plates at the end: the quail, the corncrake, the horned grebe, the green woodpecker and the blue-headed tit. Jacques Mouton-Fontenille de Laclotte (1769–1837) was a professor of botany and natural history at the Faculty of Sciences in Lyon and later director of the Natural History Museum.
