[PAEONTOLOGY – SAUMUR] COURTILLER, Auguste. Fossil sponges from the sands of the Upper Cretaceous strata in the vicinity of Saumur. Angers, Impr. de Cosnier et Lachese, 1861. In-8, paperback, blue cover. 26 pages and 40 lithographic plates based on the author’s drawings. Water stain and minor soiling on the cover; spine creased with small losses. A rare first edition on ammonites by Auguste Courtiller (1795–1875), a palaeontologist from Saumur, where he served as director of the Museum and also as a town councillor. Interior clean and fresh.
