First French edition, a limited first print run on pure-fibre paper, of these three short stories by the British writer who captures the traits of human nature with satire and humour. Paris, Plon, ‘Feux croisés’ series, 1936. In-12, ebony half-basane with three bands, ribbed spine, gilt head, untrimmed, covers and spine preserved. Signed binding (stamp worn away). 294 pp. Some scuffing on the spine of the binding, particularly at the foot. French first edition. These three short stories, translated by Jean Ably, are taken from the volume *Brief Candles*, published in London in 1930. One of 30 numbered head copies bound in pure Lafuma thread from Voiron. A fine copy.
