Description
[LANGUEDOC – ANCIEN RÉGIME]. Minutes of the Assembly of the Lords of the Estates-General of the Province of Languedoc. Montpellier, Jean Martel the Elder, 1780. Large quarto, cream vellum with four laces, gilt title on a light fawn sheepskin label, red edges. 419 - 15 - 25 - 18 pp. - 2 unnumbered folios. Traces of wear or a few scuffs, small foxing spots and water stains on the binding; one lace missing and another cut to a third of its length; pages very slightly browned, a gap in the paper without affecting the text in the lower corner of folio 161/162, and ink bleeding onto the blank page opposite the first page of the table of contents, as well as on the first page of the 25 penultimate pages numbered at the end of the volume. A very fine copy of these minutes of the Estates-General of the province of Languedoc, held in Montpellier between November 1780 and January 1781. A headband, an initial and several woodcut tailpieces illustrate the work. Likewise, a fine engraved typographical mark featuring the coat of arms of the County of Toulouse (gules, a cross hollowed out, chequy and pommeted or, surmounted by a count’s crown and encircled by palm leaves) introduces the collection. A fine piece of historical documentation, in very good condition and in its period binding.
