Description
MATANASIUS, Chrysostom [pseudonym: Hyacinthe Cordonnier]. The Masterpiece of an Unknown Author. The Hague, Pierre Husson, 1732. 2 tomes in 2 vols. in-12, later red half-shagreen, spine with faux-ribbing decorated with embossed frames and gilt or embossed fillets. 32 unnumbered folios – 264 pages and 1 unnumbered folio. - [265–528] pp., two frontispiece portraits and two fold-out engraved plates, one of which contains musical scores. A few very slight signs of wear and very rare foxing; title pages slightly browned. A fine edition of this literary satire, adorned with two engraved frontispiece portraits (the author and Judith Beseraige, widow of Jean D’Aussonne) and two fold-out engraved plates, one of which contains musical scores. Each volume bears an engraved bookplate reading ‘Patrice Salin’ and a handwritten note (pen, loose cursive script, legible brown ink) opposite the reverse of the first blank endpaper, transcribing the entry from Barbier’s *Dictionnaire des Ouvrages Anonymes*. Very fine copies. Sources: - Quérard, II, 1073.
