Description
GARNIER, Auguste-Pierre. *L'Elégie normande*. 2 manuscripts, 1 corrected typescript and one copy bound in alfa. An exceptional collection of manuscripts by the poet from the Manche region for this collection published in 1934, a copy of which is included. 1 manuscript in blue ink containing a title page and 11 numbered pages on cream-coloured paper, in-8; 1 manuscript in blue ink comprising a blue cover sheet with title and signature, a signed title page, a subtitle page, the dedication page and 16 partly numbered pages in small in-4 format on sturdy makeshift sheets (on the reverse, a corner of a colour map); the typescript, in a grey folder, with handwritten corrections, containing the dedication page and 14 numbered pages in quarto. A rare collection of these three stages of the writing process by the poet from the Manche, Auguste-Pierre Garnier (1885–1966). As the great-nephew of Auguste and Hippolyte Garnier, he took over the Garnier frères publishing house in 1911. The first manuscript, the shortest, notably does not contain the poem that opens the printed collection. The second manuscript contains a few variations compared with the richly annotated typescript, which corresponds to the final text of the printed volume. Included: - *L’Elegie Normande*. Paris, Published at the author’s expense and available at his bookshop, 1934, in-12, cloth-bound, uncut. Illustrated with a frontispiece and woodcuts by Pierre GUSMAN. Limited edition of 630 copies; this is one of the 600 numbered copies on Lafuma pure-thread paper. In perfect condition.
