In a fine, uniform binding by Canape. Paris, Hachette et Cie, 1875–1896. 10 volumes, each bound in midnight blue half-maroquin with corner caps, ribbed spine with title and volume number in gilt lettering, gilt head, untrimmed. Binding signed ‘Canape’. Not collated. Spines sun-faded, ribs thinned, some scuffing and scratches, rare foxing. An imposing edition, published over a period of more than 25 years, from the collection ‘Les Grands écrivains de la France’ edited by Adolphe Régnier. The Cardinal’s Memoirs, an irreplaceable document on the Fronde, comprise the first five volumes.
