This impressive volume on the art of gesture and expression is adorned with a frontispiece by Nadar (1820–1910) and numerous monochrome photographic reproductions, four of which are on a fold-out plate. The vast majority of the photographs feature the dancer Lina as the model, who cheerfully lends herself to this series of poses.
It also contains numerous other reproductions (engravings or illustrations). The 101-page appendix is devoted to four essays: the expressive muscles of the face, cerebral localisations, the psychic effects of contact and emanations, and the vibrations that generate forms.
A delightful copy that should appeal to theatre enthusiasts as well as lovers of the Belle Époque!
