The History of the Old and New Testaments, illustrated with figures and edifying explanations drawn from the Holy Fathers, to guide conduct in all walks of life. Paris, Libraires associés, 1770. Quarto, marbled calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt metal, double blind-stamped border framing the covers. 8 unnumbered folios (half-title, title page, preface and table of contents) and 552 pp., 267 engraved illustrations in the text (not collated), initials and tailpieces. Binding rubbed, corners worn, covers stained, tear at the top of the spine, first leaf detached, a few stains and foxing. An impressive illustrated edition containing over 260 engraved plates. “The plates in this edition, though inverted, are very similar to those in the editions by Pierre Le Petit, and reproduce some of those from the *Icones Biblicae* by Mathieu Mérian the Elder, dated by H. Eckardt as 1625” (source: Bnf). A fairly fresh copy, in a contemporary binding.
