Description
[FARGUE]. *Les Feuilles libres*. A tribute to Léon-Paul Fargue. Nos. 45–46. First edition on Holland paper of this tribute issue to Léon-Paul Fargue. A copy featuring a dedication from the author honoured by this literary and artistic journal, which featured the leading figures of the post-war avant-garde. Paris, Librairie de l’Étoile, June 1927. Quarto, black half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with the title and date in full, untrimmed, gussets preserved. 207 pages and 4 unnumbered folios (promotional catalogue of the journal with a summary of issues nos. 43 and 44), 24 reproductions (including 11 inset plates on coated paper), amongst which are the portrait of the poet by Man Ray, the painting by Paul Klee mounted on stiff cardboard, and drawings by Giorgio de Chirico, Marie Laurencin, Henri Michaux, etc. Some wear to the top edge; the covers are preserved but have browned at the margins, with a small, restored tear on the front cover. First edition of this double issue of the journal edited by Maurice Raval. One of 100 numbered copies on Holland paper, enhanced by a fine autograph dedication signed by Léon-Paul Fargue (1876–1947), addressed to the journalist Philippe Boegner ‘who has better qualities, yes, better merits than dining with Wagner’. Uncut copy, well-bound and complete with the insert on a loose leaf by Paul Klee mounted between pages 120 and 121.
