[BIBLE]. The Holy Bible, translated from the Latin Vulgate by Lemaistre de Sacy for the Old Testament and by Father Lallemant for the New Testament, accompanied by numerous explanatory notes by the Reverend Abbé Delaunay, canon of Meaux and parish priest of the diocese of Paris. With a letter of approval from Mgr SIBOUR, Archbishop of Paris. Paris, L. Cumer, 1860. 5 tomes in 5 vols. in-4, aubergine shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with embossed framing bands and gilt title, inner edge of the same shagreen adorned with a broad gilt frieze, gilt edges. Contemporary binding signed ‘D. Schultz’. 504; 488; 534; 500 and 559 pp., approximately fifty engraved plates (not collated). Some scuffing and marks or minor discolouration, a few foxing spots and one loose plate. An imposing complete Bible in five volumes, illustrated with around fifty engraved plates. It is based on the Vulgate translation by Louis Isaac Lemaistre de Sacy (1613–1684) for the Old Testament and Jacques-Philippe Lallemant (1660–1748) for the New Testament. A fine set, in good condition, in its uniform, period binding, which is signed.
