LOUYS, Pierre and SAINT-PAUL, Jean. *Le Crépuscule des Nymphes*. A fine copy of this first joint edition, illustrated with woodcuts by Jean Saint-Paul, one of 75 printed on pearl-grey paper. Paris, Editions Montaigne, 1925. In-8, paperback, with a filled cover illustrated with woodcuts. 176 pp., five woodcut plates. Slight browning to the head and foot. First collective edition of these five mythologically inspired short stories by Pierre Louÿs, illustrated with an equal number of white-line woodcuts by Jean Saint-Paul (1897–1974). One of 75 numbered copies on pearl-grey Roma paper reserved for the Société des Amis des Editions Montaigne (no. XLIX – 49). Red stamp reading ‘Editions Montaigne – L’Administrateur délégué’, signed and verified by hand (in violet ink) by the latter. The woodcuts, with their very clean lines, are particularly pleasing, especially as they are printed on pearl-grey paper. The artist also illustrated the front cover and the initial letters. A very fine illustrated book in very good condition.
