Description
[GEOLOGY] ARCHIAC, Adolphe d’ and HAIME, Jules. Description of the fossil animals of the Nummulitic Group of India. Preceded by a geological summary and a monograph on nummulites. Paris, Gide and J. Baudry, 1853. Folio, full black percaline with no title label. VI and 223 pages, 1 folding table and 15 lithographic plates based on Humbert’s drawings. The percaline binding is worn, with small tears on the spine; the first blank flyleaf has been trimmed at one corner. A few foxing spots. First edition, complete with all 15 plates (plate XV is placed before plate XI). The Viscount d’Archiac (1802–1868), a geologist and palaeontologist, was the author of a major work, *Histoire des progrès de la géologie* (*History of the Progress of Geology*), published in eight volumes between 1847 and 1860. This study, written in collaboration with his colleague Jules Haime (1824–1856), is intended as a supplement to Volume III of that *History*. The interior is in fresh condition.
