A ‘unique’ first edition printed on pearlescent Japanese paper, illustrated with ten original lithographs by Emile Grau Sala, complete with its black-and-white suite on China paper and its original signed watercolour. This copy is further enhanced by a dedicatory inscription and two pen-and-ink drawings. Paris, n.p., 1941. Large quarto, loose-leaf, illustrated cover with filled-in details, aubergine half-basane slipcase and marbled cardboard boards, with a matching slipcase. Unpaginated, ten full-page lithographic compositions. Spine of the half-leather case sun-faded and showing signs of rubbing, as does the slipcase. A rare first edition illustrated with ten original, full-colour lithographs by Emile Grau Sala (1911–1975). Preface by Pierre Espil. Limited edition of 70 copies; this is the sole copy on pearlescent Japanese paper containing a black-and-white suite of the illustrations on Chinese paper, signed in graphite by the artist, and an original watercolour by the same artist. This volume is enhanced by an autograph letter signed by Grau Sala to ‘Madame Castelucho’, dated July 1941, featuring a charming pen-and-ink drawing of a young nude woman and two doves, as well as an unsigned drawing introducing the black-and-white series on Chinese paper. A unique item in excellent condition.
