Description
[ANATOMY]. FLOURENS, Pierre. Research into the development of bones and teeth. No place, no publisher. [Paris, Gide – Museum of Natural History, 1841]. Large quarto, later sand-coloured paper binding, straight spine, title label on the front cover. 315–460 pp., 12 colour plates based on drawings by Werner. Extensive light water stains, but the plates are unaffected. Extract from the Archives of the Museum of Natural History, Volume II. A separate edition was published the following year. Pierre Flourens (1794–1867), a physician and biologist from Montpellier, is regarded as one of the founders of experimental neuroscience. His friendship with Georges Cuvier led him to join the National Museum of Natural History, where he taught human anatomy from 1830 and comparative physiology from 1838. Good condition.
