Description
JUBINAL, Achille. A New Collection of Tales, Sayings, Fabliaux and Other Unpublished Pieces from the 13th, 14th and 15th Centuries, following on from the Legrand d’Aussy, Barbazan and Méon collections. Paris, Edouard Pannier, 1839 2 in-8 volumes, each bound in blue half-maroquin with corner caps, spine ribbed and decorated with small gilt metalwork, gilt heads. VII-386 and VII-441 pp. The colour of the binding is slightly faded, with some normal wear and tear, worn corners and a few foxing spots. First edition of these tales brought to light by Achille Jubinal (1810–1875), a French medievalist and politician. Print run limited to 520 copies. Handwritten bookplate on the half-title page of the first volume. A fine copy in a delicate binding.
