SAND, George and GIRARD, Daniel. *La Petite Fadette*. One of the first 25 copies printed on Imperial Japan paper, including an original watercolour by Daniel Girard and a triple set of lithographs, in an attractive binding with a mosaic design by Charles Septier. Paris, A. Ferroud – F. Ferroud, Successor, 1938. In-8, full caramel morocco, spine with four false raised bands adorned with the title in gold and a large central mosaic fleur-de-lis, inner edges in the same morocco featuring a gold-embossed border punctuated by the same mosaic fleur-de-lis, gilded fillet at the corners, guilloché caps, gilt edges, illustrated covers and spine preserved, in a bordered slipcase. Binding signed by Charles Septier. 239 pp., 30 lithographs. Minor scuffs to the slipcase. An illustrated edition featuring 30 original lithographs by Daniel Girard (1890–1970). Limited edition of 1,565 copies; this being one of the 25 numbered head copies on Imperial Japan paper (no. 22), complete with the artist’s signed original watercolour and the triple set of all lithographs with a note (in colour within the text and at the end, in black and a single-colour version). A copy in excellent condition, in a binding perfectly executed by Charles Septier, a prominent bookbinder of the interwar period who remained active until 1958.
