Printed by Jacques Collombat (1668–1744, the King’s chief printer), this *Office de la Semaine Sainte à l’usage de la Maison du Roy* is bound in full garnet morocco bearing the coat of arms of the young Louis XV, who was 22 years old in 1732. It is illustrated with a double frontispiece and four full-page copperplate engravings, as well as four ornamental woodcut headbands opposite them. Written in French and Latin, the text is laid out alternately in one or two columns.
The version of the coat of arms appearing on this copy (azure, three gold fleurs-de-lis surmounted by a royal crown and surrounded by the collars of the Order of Saint Michael and the Holy Spirit) from the early reign of ‘the Beloved’ is found in three formats, this one (90 x 60 mm) being the largest.
With a handwritten bookplate (legible cursive script, brown ink with golden highlights, the last three letters of the name smudged) on the first white endpaper reading ‘Madame la vicomtesse de Cha[bot?]’ and a bookplate underneath reading ‘m. Labrousse’.
A fine and delightful bibliophile’s item.
