Facsimile (produced using the Motteroz process) of the 1567 edition of this famous treatise on architecture. The edition was prepared by Charles Nizet, a French diocesan architect of the second half of the 19th century.
A royal architect in the service of Henry II and Catherine de’ Medici, who fell out of favour in the late 1550s, Philibert Delorme, or de l’Orme (1514–1570), spent the final years of his life writing. Richly illustrated, his treatises emphasise the importance of the senses for anyone wishing to be a good architect, whilst scornfully depicting the heads of bad architects as having nothing but a mouth, as, in his view, they do nothing but ‘babble and slander’.
A very fine copy in very good condition.
