First edition illustrated with delicate compositions by Jean Oberthür, including a fold-out map. It opens with a facsimile of a preface by Alphonse de Chateaubriant, followed by a study of waterfowl in France. Included: SAMAT. Hunting Dogs. Manufacture Française Armes et Cycles De Saint Etienne, 1938. Oblong quarto album, publisher’s cardboard binding illustrated on the front cover with two polychrome heads of Artois bassets, repeated on the title page. 78 chromolithographic plates. At the end, 6 colour leaflets advertising shotguns. A superb album reproducing the watercolours of the wildlife painters Mahler and Castellan, accompanied by descriptive texts on the breeds by Jean-Baptiste Samat. A fine collection.
