LXXVIII and 228 pp., 2 tables and a plate with 9 fold-out figures. Worn paperback with a missing section and a label at the top of the spine; numerous foxing spots on the first and last leaves. Rare first edition. In his introduction, Robineau-Desvoidy (1799–1857), an entomologist of a solitary and strong-willed character, criticises the members of the Academy of Sciences who refused to publish his study, which appears to have had a limited print run.
