Description
ARVERS, Felix. *Mes Heures perdues*. First edition of this extremely rare collection of romantic poetry, accompanied by a signed autograph letter from the poet addressed to Samson, the great actor of the Comédie-Française. Paris, Fournier Jeune, 1833. 1 vol. in-8 (215 × 140 mm). Aubergine half-calf with corner pieces, smooth spine decorated with the title and rocaille foliage in gilt tooling. Binding slightly later. 350 pp., 1 p.; autograph letter bound in at the beginning. Title page adorned with a wood-engraved vignette. Leather slightly faded. Water stain along the inner margin, with traces on the first few leaves. Paper slightly warped. Discreet restoration to the letter. First edition of this infinitely rare Romantic collection, significant for the famous sonnet (page 71) which embodies the Romanticism of the silent heart: unconfessed, discreet and pure love. This copy contains an autograph note signed by the author, addressed to the Comédie-Française actor Samson, in which he asks for two theatre tickets (double leaf in-16, s.l., ‘Friday evening’). A well-bound copy in a fine binding in the style of the Romantic era.
