[1871]. 2 volumes in 1 in-8 volume, Bradel binding in black half-percaline, smooth spine with handwritten title label, VIII, 479 and 136 pp. One colour fold-out map. Some scuffing to the binding; foxing on the first and last leaves. First edition of this study on the nature of marine rocks by Achille Delesse (1817–1881), a geologist who taught at the Sorbonne, the École normale supérieure and the École des mines. The second volume presents, in tabular form, a detailed analysis of coastal and submarine winds and sediments. Label from the Ottmar Schönhuth bookshop in Munich, handwritten bookplate. A fine copy.
