A new edition of the major work by the jurist Jean Domat (1625–1696), King’s Counsel at the presidial court of Clermont in Auvergne. This comprehensive work constitutes the first legal synthesis based on reason and nature, reaffirming the pre-eminence of Roman law. It inspired Montesquieu to choose the title for his work *De l’Esprit des Lois*. A fine copy, in a contemporary binding.
