DELVAU, Alfred. Cafés & Cabarets of Paris. With drawings and etchings by Gustave Courbet, Léopold Flameng and Félicien Rops. A stroll through the cafés and cabarets of Paris during the Second Empire, illustrated with a frontispiece by Félicien Rops and vignettes by Léopold Flameng and Gustave Courbet. Paris, E. Dentu, 1862. In-12, half-chagrin with raised bands, decorated with gilt or embossed fillets. VIII – 298 pp. – 1 blank folio, one engraved frontispiece and seven vignettes, also engraved. Very slight wear and tear from use, foxing on the first unnumbered leaves and a few scattered instances of foxing thereafter. First edition of this ballad set in the artistic, literary and working-class world of Paris’s cabarets and cafés. It is illustrated with a frontispiece drawn and engraved by Félicien Rops (1833–1898), as well as seven original etched vignettes mounted onto the text, including one by Gustave Courbet (1819–1877) and six by Léopold Flameng (1831–1911). A fine copy.
