Very slight wear and tear from use, foxing on the first unnumbered leaves and a few scattered instances of foxing thereafter.
First edition of this ballad set in the artistic, literary and working-class world of Paris’s cabarets and cafés.
It is illustrated with a frontispiece drawn and engraved by Félicien Rops (1833–1898), as well as seven original etched vignettes mounted onto the text, including one by Gustave Courbet (1819–1877) and six by Léopold Flameng (1831–1911).
