Paris, Arthème Fayard & Cie, 1919.
In-8, red half-maroquin with coarse-grained corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and interlacing patterns and embossed fleurons, gilt top edge, covers and spine intact, untrimmed. Binding signed ‘Yseux ss. [successor] to Simier’.
282 pp.
Very slight wear to the corners and upper cap, the first white endpaper of the book has darkened.
A rare first edition of *Sonia à Paris*, the third volume of an autobiographically inspired tetralogy. A short print run limited to 55 copies; this is one of the 30 numbered copies on Holland paper (no. 22).
Myriam Harry (1869–1958), a reporter specialising in the Middle East, enjoyed success with her short stories and novels. The Goncourt jury’s refusal to award its prize to a ‘woman’ led to the creation of the Prix Femina in 1904, of which she was the first winner.
Our copy is set in an elegant red half-maroquin binding with decorated corners, signed ‘Yseux ss. [successor] to Simier’.
The copy is in excellent condition.
