Description
1966 MG B GT. Chassis number: GHD3/80657... In 1924, William Morris began modifying production models. His company took the name Morris Garage a few months later. In the 1950s, the brand diversified into saloons, but retained its speciality in small roadsters, with the MGA, followed by the MG B, which appeared in 1962. It retained the small 1798 cm³ 3-bearing 4-cylinder engine, reputed to be indestructible. However, this was upgraded to a five-bearing design in 1965. That same year saw the launch of a coupé version known as the MG B GT, whose highly elegant design was the work of the Italian designer Pininfarina… This vehicle was sold new in Canada in 1966. This is an example from the first six months of production. It was imported from Canada in 2016 and registered in France on 8 June 2016. It has a classic car registration certificate, with a tax power rating of 10CV. The most recent roadworthiness test was carried out on 4 July 2024, and the car has since covered 733 km, as confirmed by the odometer. The vehicle is in fine condition. It has clearly undergone a complete restoration within the last 10 years. It should be noted that we have no historical records regarding the vehicle’s maintenance history, apart from the Histovec report… The floorpan and underbody are in good condition, as are the running gear components. It should be noted that the entire vehicle has undergone anti-corrosion treatment involving the application of a phosphating agent, which limits the scope of the inspection. We note that whilst almost all bodywork components are made of metal, the bonnet has been replaced with one made of composite materials (plastic). The interior features two seats and a bench seat upholstered in black imitation leather, all in good condition. The carpets and body panelling are in good condition. We have reservations regarding the compliance of the electrical system, which will require a thorough check. The dashboard is complete and features all its original instruments… As no test drive has been carried out, we cannot comment on the functionality of the electrical and mechanical components whilst the vehicle is in motion. We note that the tyres are old and partially cracked. They must be replaced before the vehicle is put back on the road. The spoked wheels are in good condition... Externally, the various body panels are in good condition, as are the chrome fittings, the grille and the radiator. An inspection of the underbody confirms that it is in satisfactory condition. We note that during the restoration, the windscreen was refitted using the original seal, which is in poor condition, as are the chrome trims intended to embellish it. We also note a few minor finish flaws… The engine fitted to the vehicle is leaking oil. We can see that it is not seized. The gearbox is also leaking fluid, and the leak is substantial enough to have reached the floor pan reinforcements. The gears engage correctly when stationary. During the inspection, the vehicle could not be started as there was no charged battery to turn the ignition on. We are therefore unable to comment on the condition of the battery or the engine’s performance. In the absence of reliable information regarding the vehicle’s condition, maintenance history and the date it was taken off the road, it will be essential to collect the vehicle on a recovery flatbed and to have all safety-critical components inspected and repaired by a professional, if necessary, before putting it back on the road. The vehicle comes with its classic car registration document. It is sold as seen, without a roadworthiness test and without any warranty. We invite bidders to attend the viewing to form their own opinion of the vehicle.
