In-8, contemporary binding in fawn half-calf with small corners, plain spine decorated with gilt scrolls, title label in chocolate morocco, speckled edges.

The play, based on a plot outline by Anicet Bourgeois, premiered at the Opéra-Comique on 6 February 1832, with Mme Moreau-Sainti in the title role, alongside Ida Ferrier and Bocage. It was during rehearsals for the play that Dumas met Ida Ferrier, whom he would eventually marry.
A bourgeois melodrama: a young husband discovers that his father-in-law, Baron Delaunay, has just remarried his former mistress, Teresa. Whilst the baron is away, the former lovers resume their affair. The wife, sensing her husband’s infidelity, falls ill, whilst the cuckolded husband seeks a way to vent his anger…
