Description
THE STATE COUNSELLOR, Director of the King’s Private Office, to Alexandre Dumas. Autograph letter signed [name illegible]. The Hague, 17 April 1849. 1 p. in-4 on paper with a wide mourning border, tears at the fold but no missing text. ‘Sir! The King, my august Sovereign, has instructed me to write to you in reply to your letter of the 6th of this month, stating that as far as His Majesty is concerned, He will be delighted to see you at this residence… From 9 to 16 May 1849, Alexandre Dumas travelled to the Netherlands to attend the coronation of King William III, who had ascended the throne on 17 March 1849 upon the death of his father, William II.
