In-12, red half-maroquin with corner pieces, smooth spine, title and date gilt, uncut edges, covers and spine preserved (Carayon binding). [2 ff.], 188 pp. First edition. The first painter mentioned, ‘All honour to whom honour is due’: Delacroix, ‘that is to say, the great figure who, since 1830, has imperiously dominated not only his own school but all modern schools’. ’ The random selection of artists allows him to also name Célestin Nanteuil, Louis Boulanger, Daubigny, Isabey, as well as Clésinger, who was for a time the husband of Solange Sand.
