Description
(Manuscript) – Alexandre DUMAS. *Marchiali, or The Old Age of the Musketeers*, a drama in 5 acts and 12 scenes. [1861]. Handwritten copy of the first scene. [27 ff.] in-4 in a brown percaline-bound notebook. An interesting handwritten fragment of the second of the three plays that Dumas and Maquet adapted from *The Vicomte de Bragelonne* in 1851. Dumas struggled to get them staged. In 1860, after several attempts, he submitted *The Viscount of Bragelonne*, *Marchiali* or *The End of the Musketeers* to the director of the Théâtre Impérial du Cirque under his own name alone. R. Félix was tasked with revising the text. *The Prisoner of the Bastille. The End of the Musketeers*, a drama in 5 acts and 9 scenes, finally opened on 22 March 1861. Provenance: the library of Anatole Lionnet.
