This special edition, not released for sale, was presented by Dumas fils to his friends It is supplemented by: - 3 autograph signed letters by Alexandre Dumas fils. 4 pp. in-8, 1 p. in-12. - A set of 10 etchings by Albert Besnard in two states, and the frontispiece in five states. The confessions of a murderer to his lawyer. The illegitimate son of a self-sacrificing laundress (well, well… Alexander II’s mother was a seamstress), Pierre Clémenceau, through sheer hard work, becomes a famous sculptor. He marries a demi-mondaine, Iza, who cheats on him on several occasions. One day, driven mad by jealousy, he kills her. The illegitimate child and the murder of the adulterous wife are recurring themes in the work of Dumas fils. Vicaire III, 469.
