Description
G. de CHERVILLE. *Les Chiens et les chats* by Eugène Lambert. With a preface by Alexandre Dumas [the Younger]. And biographical notes by Paul Leroi. Paris, À la Librairie de l’Art, 1888.
Quarto, fawn half-basane, plain spine with decoration, speckled edges.
XVII, 292 pp., 6 etchings and 145 drawings by Eugène Lambert.
First edition.
Gaspard de Cherville (1821–1898) was a long-standing acquaintance of Alexandre II. He was one of Dumas the Elder’s principal collaborators following his falling-out with Maquet. As for the animal painter Eugène Lambert (1825–1900), it was their shared connection with George Sand that led them to become friends.
Slight rubbing on the spine, corners and edges, a few foxing spots.
